The Bluebell Railway

Michelle

The Bluebell Railway: The Bluebell Railway Sussex, the perfect attraction for children & adults. Oliver loved to the vintage steam train, the traditionally dressed conductors & the whistling through the tunnels.. All aboard!20131024-152302.jpg We decided to have a week off with Oliver before the new baby arrived and take him on a few special trips, this was the perfect afternoon & we have precious memories we will treasure forever... A special treat but certainly a worthwhile one! 20131024-152318.jpg We brought along a packed lunch & a rucksack with a sticker book and a few toys but where surprised at how interested Oliver was in just looking out of the window & enjoying the ride. 20131024-152333.jpg He loved stopping at the stations, watching the passengers getting on and off and also waving at the people just watching. We went from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead return, and had just enough time for a quick refresh, an ice-cream and a good look at the beautiful train. 20131024-152349.jpg About the Bluebell Railway The volunteer-run Bluebell Line was the UK's first preserved standard gauge passenger railway, re-opening part of the Lewes to East Grinstead line of the old London Brighton & South Coast Railway in 1960. Since then it has developed into one of the largest tourist attractions in Sussex, yet it still remains true to its objectives of the preservation for posterity of a country branch line, its steam locomotives, coaches and goods stock, signalling systems, stations and operating practices. 20131024-152359.jpg A steam train ride on the Bluebell is one of the top things to do with kids on holiday for a day out in Sussex (the line crosses the border between East Sussex and West Sussex, and is not far from Surrey). This heritage railway is close to Haywards Heath, Gatwick Airport, Uckfield, Brighton and Lewes, in the Ashdown Forest/Mid Sussex area of England. Your children will love to take our vintage steam rail trip during your vacation. 20131024-152408.jpg On this website you can find Visitor Information, and details of the Timetable showing the train times for the UK's only all-steam railway. In addition to scheduled passenger trains, there is also the Golden Arrow Pullman Train on which you can experience the ultimate "meal out", and in the run up to Christmas each year, the very popular Santa Specials where the children receive presents from Father Christmas, and a full programme of other Special Events. 20131024-152423.jpg I will be looking into the Christmas train ride although have to firstly ensure Oliver is over his fear of Santa as we had a few tears last year...
